Each year the interiors of the Rotch-Jones-Duff (RJD) House and Garden Museum are transformed for our fundraising event, Celebrate the Season. The period rooms of this Greek Revival whaling mansion are appointed with elegant holiday decorations, plant material, table settings and displays. Funds generated from the event underwrite the cost of student educational programming, offered free of charge to more than 2,000 students annually.
The large scale of the rooms and the ornate wallpapers of the historic interiors provide limitless inspiration for Museum volunteers and professional designers alike.
Haskell’s Nursery will continue a tradition of more than 25 years by creating a display that features their unique topiaries and plant material in the front entry way. The Potting Benchwas inspired by the earth tones in the wallpaper and selected an assortment of gilded ribbons, flowers, birds and ornaments to adorn a nine-foot tree in the upstairs hallway. Other designers include the Garden Club of Greater New Bedford, The Cottage at Four Corners in Tiverton, RI, and the New Bedford Museum of Glass. Another holiday exhibit highlight is a “Festival of Tables” showcasing an assortment of holiday table settings by Museum volunteers.
The festivities begin on December 2nd at 6:00 pm with the Gala Preview Party. Guests will enjoy a sumptuous offering of gourmet hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. Custom-designed wreaths, swags and table decorations will be available at the Wreath Silent Auction in the parlors of the Museum. Admission to the Preview Party is $45 for members, $50 for non-members. To reserve tickets, please call the museum at 508-997-1401 or click here to order securely online.
