Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass

The Museum of Fine Arts ~ The Art of the Americas Wing, Boston

The RJD and the New Bedford Museum of Glass invite you to a spectacular day of art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Join us for a guided tour of the new wing, The Art of the Americas, showcasing more than 5,000 works of art produced in North, Central, and South America over the course of three millennia. Art is arranged chronologically in the wing’s 53 brand-new galleries, including nine beautiful period rooms and four behind the scenes galleries that enhance the way visitors experience and interact with the collection.

In the course of his long career, Dale Chihuly has revolutionized the art of blown glass, moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture and establishing the use of glass–inherently a fragile but also magical material–as a vehicle for installation and environmental art. This exhibition of new and archival works represents the breadth and scope of the artist’s creative vision over the last four decades.

To enhance our museum experience, Kirk Nelson, noted glass authority and Executive Director of the New Bedford Museum of Glass, will share his expertise about Chihuly and his craft on our motor coach journey to the MFA. The bus departs the RJD at 9:00 am and returns by 5:00 pm. Reservations are required, $65 for RJD and Museum of Glass members, and $75 for non-members.

To register for this event, please call the museum at 508-997-1401 or click here to register securely on-line.
