Former Duff Country Retreat the Site of RJD Dinner Dance

As we celebrate three decades of preservation at the RJD, it is most appropriate that the location of this year’s RJD Dinner Dance Fundraiser has a special connection to the House and families at 396 County Street. Destruction Brook Farm on Slades Corner Road in South Dartmouth was the former summer estate of the Mark M. Duff Family.

The Duffs purchased the farm in 1939. They built the antebellum style house and thirteen stables, which combined with the existing barn, became their summer estate. The property was the primary locale for the family’s leisure activities. It allowed them to indulge in their love of horses and other sporting events.

In the 1960’s the Duffs sold the property and there were several subsequent owners. After years of neglect, Will Milbury and George Leontire purchased it in 1998 and initiated the renovations that returned the the property to its current pristine condition.
